World Cup of Golf - Year 5 Visit
Mr Macdermid and Mr Smethurst

How do you get 32 Year 5 students to not say a word for 30 minutes? Easy, take them to the World Cup of Golf at Kingston Heath Golf Course. I might also add, when they are Kingston Heath Primary School Year 5 students to begin with, the job is made a great deal easier anyway.
It was an amazing experience for our students to see some of the best golfers in the world, at one of the best golf courses in the world. We were given the opportunity to partake in some golfing activities on the putting green and we practiced some driving as well. I must say, there may be some budding Adam Scott’s and Jason Day’s amongst the students.
We then had the opportunity to see some live golf. One group got to sit just off the 18th green and watch the Australians play the hole. A couple of students managed to souvenir golf balls, due to the generosity of the Welsh and Chinese Taipei teams. It was a real thrill, especially when we realised one of the spectators just near us was none other than former Australian Test Captain, Ricky Ponting, who was only too happy to pose for a few photos.
Hats off (yet again) to the Year 5’s, for their outstanding behaviour. They were wonderful ambassadors for our school. Thanks to Steve Pearce and his team, and to Golf Victoria for their wonderful hospitality. Also a special mention to Lindy Freese for helping out.
