Lightning Premiership Summer Report

On Friday 13th March, the Year 5 and Year 6 students participated in the Cheltenham District Sports Lightning Premiership Round Robin day at Mentone Grammar playing fields in Keysborough. All teams played enthusiastically over the course of the day with mixed results. It was a credit to the students for their exemplary behaviour on the day.

Thank you to the teachers and parents who helped coach, manage, umpire, score, as well as look after each of the teams on the day. Your work is greatly appreciated by the students. We had a great day at the Lightning Premiership. We played really well as a team and improved as the day went on. We played four games in total. We won one game and lost three. Probably our day can be summed up by the fact that O.L.A., who beat us by 52 runs in the first game, only beat us by 6 runs in our final.

Highlights of the day were:

  • Sai hitting lots of fours and sixes
  • Jono’s two wickets in two balls
  • Logan’s twelve
  • Joel and Jono’s two catches
  • Noah taking out Logan
  • Logan’s awesome catch after being taken out by Noah.
  • David’s six off the last ball of Game 1 and taking two wickets in one over.
  • Tom’s fielding over the entire day

Most importantly we had lots of fun. Thanks to Mr Smethurst for organising everything.

Round 2: Kingston Heath 125 def Cheltenham East 110

At the conclusion of the round matches Kingston Heath was undefeated with 3 wins and are therefore the District Kanga Girls Lightning Premiers. The girls will therefore advance to the Division (Zone) Finals for the third year in a row. Well done girls.

Some of the Kanga Girls’ Cricket highlights were:

  • Jessie and Maddie’s bowling
  • Eve’s ball going through the wickets
