Inquiry in Level 3

Years 3 and 4 have recently started a new Inquiry Unit entitled ‘ICT impacts on the way we connect and operate in the community.’ We have already looked at the development of computers since the early 20th century until now. As an assessment task, students were divided into groups to address different thinking skills and either completed a timeline, reported on a piece of technology or examined the positive and negative impacts of the mobile phone. We are now examining how people communicate and interact and the difference between public and private internet spaces. After two content based lessons, students will participate in one of four assessment tasks based on Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences. Students are very engaged in this unit and benefit from being given the structure of an allocated thinking skills task one week and being able to direct their learning the following week, by choosing a Multiple Intelligence task that suits their learning style.
