Lightning Premiership

Summer Report 2016

On Friday 11th March, the Year Five and Six students from Kingston Heath Primary School played our Lightning Premiership at Mentone Grammar Playing Fields. The weather was overcast at the very start which meant it got humid. As the day went on the sky got clearer and it got a lot hotter.

Kanga Girls: Our first game for the day was against Mentone Girls Grammar. We won this game 144 to 136. We then played another 3 games against Cheltenham East, Mentone Grammar and OLA, where unfortunately we lost all of those games. Special highlights were Jenna’s fielding, Alannah’s bowling, Alycia’s batting and everyones great sportsmanship throughout the day!

Kanga Boys: Our first game was against Cheltenham and we lost 89 to 142. We then played against Cheltenham East and won 175 to 114. Our final game was against Mentone Grammar and won 187 to 196. With our great performances throughout the day we have made it to the next round! Special highlights for the day were Logan’s and Tom’s 42 run over. Also Oscar making 46, Joel’s great batting and Zak’s brilliant bowling. Special thanks to Mr Brookes for coaching us and showing us many new skills about cricket. Also Catherine from Cheltenham East P.S for offering to umpire one of our games when her team had a bye.

Tee-ball Girls: Our first game was against Heatherton Christian College and we lost 13 to 5 but after losing the first two innings we showed improvement and won the third. Our second game we won 7 to 3 against Cheltenham East. Our third game we played against Heatherton Christian College and we won 6 to 3. Our final game we won 5 to 3 against Mentone Girls Grammar. The last game was definitely the most satisfying as Mentone Girls Grammar were very intimidating due to them playing at their home ground and their size. Our team had not won a single game the entire season so to win 3 games out of 4 and beat Mentone Girls Grammar was a miracle and we felt on top of the world. Special thanks to Ava for joining our team today. Big thanks to Mr O’Meara for coaching and cheering our team today.

Tee-ball Boys: Our first game was against Southmoor and we won 6 to 7. Our second game was against Cheltenham and we tied 10 all. Our third game was against Southmoor’s other team and we lost 4 to 6. Then we played Southmoor again and this time we lost 4 to 6. Our final game was against Cheltenham again and we won 10 to 2. There were two excellent double plays, with a catch and out on a base as well. Arwen’s catches were the highlights of the day. Special thanks to Mr and Mrs Freese, Mrs Funnell, Mrs Cole, Mrs Spence and Brodie for joining our team today. We have improved a lot over the term and had great fun today.

Volleystars Girls: Our first game was against Heatherton Christian College and we won. After that we played six more games which we lost. Thanks to Mr Martin, Mr Alan Jameson and Sandy from Heatherton Christian College for their support today.

Volleystars Mixed: We beat Mentone Grammar, Heatherton Christian College and Cheltenham. We lost to Cheltenham East, OLA and Southmoor.  We won 3 games and lost 3. We would like to thank Mr Martin for his support and we really enjoyed playing with the students from Le Page.  Special thanks to Mr Mac for giving us some extra training on Thursday which helped.

Hotshots Tennis: We played against three schools, the first was against Heatherton Christian College and the scores were 49 to 43 and we lost.  We played against Southmoor next and scored 41 to 19, we won. Then we played Cheltenham East and the score 24 to 26 and we won. We would like to thank Lachlan for his support today.
