Level 4 Life Saving Program

Ms. Fox, Ms. Wheatley, Mr. Starling and Mr. Macdermid

Level 4 have hit the ground (sand) running this term with our Life Saving program being held at Beaumaris Life Saving Club. In true Melbourne fashion, our first day, Monday 6th of February, was cold and windy, following a temperature of 33 degrees  the day before. Not to be deterred, the students embraced the challenge and learnt much from the day.

With water activities out of the question, the focus on Monday was dangers at the beach and first aid. The students discussed rips, currents, where to swim and some of the creatures they may encounter whilst at the beach. First aid consisted of brushing up on what do in the case of an emergency and revising the acronym D.R.S.A.B.C.D.  How many parents know what that stands for? What about the acronym C.O.W.S. when seeking a response from a suspected unconscious patient? If you’re not sure, ask your child.

The weather forecast looks good for the rest of the week. We’re sure the students will make the most of it.
