Kanga Cricket Regional Finals 2016

By Michael Smethurst, Sports Coordinator

It has been two long terms of waiting until the day has finally arrived. It’s Wednesday, 16th November and K.H.P.S. are competing in the Kanga Cricket regional finals held at Doug Denyer Reserve, Mordialloc. The weather is a mild 22 degrees and the sun has finally broken through. The pitch conditions are hard and fast that will definitely favour the bowlers.

The day consisted of three games and a final. Our first game was against Gardenvale Primary who were a very talented team and gave us our biggest loss of the day. Scores were Gardenvale 163 defeated K.H.P.S. 55.

Our second game was against Parkdale Primary who were also a good team. Scores were Pardadale 144 defeated K.H.P.S. 122.

In our final game we finally were able to play as we did early Term 1. We were up against St Joesphs (Black Rock). We bowled first and by halfway through their inning we held them to only 28 runs. Unfortunately we lasped in concerntration and they finished their inning with a total of 173. This was the biggest score of the day so far. K.H.P.S. were concerned whether we could chase down their massive total.

With a positive attitude we began our inning with Rhys and Logan who made a solid contribution. Followed by Shaun and Oscar; Zak and Andres who in total climbed our total to 112. Tom and Brodie were the final batting pair to come with a massive score chase to get. K.H.P.S. needed 63 runs to win off 2 overs. Then the Tom and Brodie show began. Tom hit 7 deliveries for six past over the bowlers head scoring 12 runs each and collectively Tom and Brodie scored 78 runs bring K.H.P.S. to victory.

Once again the boys displayed outstanding sportsmanship and team spirit. Many thanks to Mr Mike Brookes (Supercoach), Mrs Bree Vallance, Ms Trudi Spence and Mrs Sandie Baumgartner for their help and support on the day.
